Public Health Ordered Closure (Nov. 23—Dec. 7)

Dear Community Members,

By order and direction of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO):

“…all individuals, places of work and businesses in B.C. must significantly reduce their level of social interactions…”

The Connections Place Society clubhouse team has once again made the hard decision to close the clubhouse doors and temporarily suspend most building-based services and programs from November 19th through December 7th.

Protecting the health and safety of our clubhouse communityincluding staff, members, and all of our associated families and friendsis our top priority. We have heard the call from Public Health Officer Bonnie Henry and we are committed to doing our part to prevent the unnecessary spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The clubhouse is a dynamic social environment that promotes connection through meaningful relationships and engages its members through diverse work-related programming. To do this, we often work closely with one another as we attend to the jobs of the work-ordered day and engage in social programming. However, at this time, we feel it’s our responsibility as a community partner and in the best interest of everyone involved, to abide by the Public Health Orders to limit social interactions at the clubhouse. This means that we must greatly reduce our on-site programming to minimize interactions where the pandemic can continue to spread.

But don’t lose hope! We haven’t closed entirely. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. The clubhouse team is already working hard to disrupt isolation and stay connected with our members during this temporary shut down. We are:

  • re-launching the ‘Virtual Clubhouse’ with daily morning and afternoon Zoom meetings (see schedule below)
  • providing a daily lunch for pick-up or to be safely eaten at the clubhouse
  • offering various outreach opportunities to meet up with our staff in your community for a walk and/or coffee
  • and we are always available by phone, email, and in person to offer connection and support

Temporarily limiting social interactions is challenging and we are all feeling the effects of this pandemic. But we are in this together and we will get through this together. Staying connected will help us all stay healthy.
