Food Services

In our Kitchen & Joy unit, colleagues are responsible for meal planning, preparing lunch and the general maintenance of the Clubhouse. The Kitchen & Joy unit is also responsible for planning our social events! Members and staff in the Kitchen & Joy unit meet every Monday to discuss upcoming social events. All are encouraged to join these meetings to have input and planning of upcoming socials.

This unit is a great place to use skills, or develop new skills, in a low-risk and supportive environment full of kind and caring people. Members can build their confidence, feelings of self-efficacy, and take ownership over what they make, knowing that they’re contributing to healthier, happier lives for their colleagues. Working in the Kitchen Unit, people can access food education by being involved in meal preparation, can combat food insecurity through subsidized meals and drinks, and learn how to budget for personal grocery shops.

Kitchen and Joy area work tasks include:

  • Menu planning and shopping
  • Food handling and prepping
  • Portioning and serving lunches
  • Clearing and sanitizing tables
  • Washing, sanitizing, and putting away dishes
  • Collecting payments and operating cash register
