Darcy is a retired military policeman, having served 22 years across Canada and in the Middle East. During his service, he was posted to CFB Esquimalt in the 1980’s, so it was an easy decision to eventually return to Victoria after retirement. For the past 11 years, Darcy has been a member of the BC Sheriff Service and recently retired from the Superintendent role for the Vancouver Island Region.
After leaving the military, Darcy experienced a mental health crisis that lead him to seek help. He was subsequently diagnosed and treated for PTSD that was related to his military service. He has since made a successful return into the workforce and is an advocate for those going through their own PTSD struggles. Darcy is a competitive outrigger canoe and dragon boat paddler, who uses fitness as a strategy to maintain a healthy lifestyle and as a coping mechanism for living with PTSD. Through Connections Place, he hopes to give back to the mental health community that helped him and to assist others to find their own coping strategies.
