To Whom It May Concern:

Letter of Support for Moms Like Us and an Accredited Greater Victoria Clubhouse

On behalf of the Municipality of Oak Bay, I would like to take this opportunity to express support for the development of an accredited Clubhouse in the Greater Victoria area.

I have had the privilege of meeting with the Moms Like Us group and learning about the positive results of the Clubhouse International model and its mission, which provides people whose lives have been disrupted by mental illness the opportunity to recover meaningful and productive lives through reintegration within the workplace and the community.

Over the years, through my experience as Mayor, as Chair of the Oak Bay Police Board, and as senior litigator for the Victoria Crown Counsel, I am aware of the escalating need for a program that provides structure and support during the stages of a person regaining control of their life.  This program model has proven beneficial to help people stay out of hospital and off the street.

From what I have read about an Accredited Clubhouse, I believe Victoria would benefit a great deal, and I can see this program reducing police interventions and hospital admissions to some degree.

It is a sad reality that our street problem and homelessness is not going to disappear anytime soon, and we need help to reduce the burden on our community and to support those in need.  I would look forward to having such a support system in place for our community.

Yours sincerely,

Nils Jensen
