Paul McKivett - Board Member
Paul McKivett is a Human Resource professional with 30 years experience in local government. Paul was employed by The Corporation of the District of Saanich in both the Municipal Clerks Office and the Human Resources Division of Corporate Services. He retired from Saanich in January, 2005 as the Senior Human Resources Manager. Paul currently serves as an Associate with the firm of James R. Craven & Associates Ltd in Victoria, B.C.
Paul received his education at the University of Victoria School of Public Administration, graduating with a Diploma in Public Sector Management. In addition, Paul has been awarded both his Intermediate and Senior Certificates in Municipal Administration from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
Paul was seconded on two occasions during his career: Initially, to the District of Metchosin as Municipal Clerk for four months upon its incorporation in 1985 to assist in the transfer of authority from the Capital Regional District and the Ministry of Highways to the new District of Metchosin. Secondly, in 1991, to the BC Official Opposition (Liberal) for five months as Chief of Staff in order to assist with the establishment of their offices and hiring personnel, both here in Victoria and throughout the province.
Paul has presented workshops on harassment awareness, job evaluation, health & wellness programs, rehabilitation and disability management to organizations as diverse as the Western Cities Conference, the Post-Secondary Employers’ Association, and Forest Renewal BC.
Volunteer Work & Awards
Paul has served his community in a number of volunteer and elected roles: As a Victoria School Trustee, President of the Vancouver Island Multiple Sclerosis Society, two terms as Chair of the Greater Victoria United Way Campaign, Chair of the Volunteer Committee for the Victoria Tall Ships Festival in June, 2008 (as well as in 2005). Paul also Chaired the Committee that produced the Saanich Centennial Book celebrating Saanich's 100th anniversary as a municipality in 2006.
Paul served on the Saanich Police Board for six years 2006 to 2012. In this role he also served as the Vice-President of the BC Association of Police Boards (2007 – 2011) and Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Association of Police Boards (2008 – 2011). Paul was made a Life Time Member of both the CAPB and the BCAPB for services rendered. Paul is also Past President of the Saanich Legacy Foundation, the Gordon Head Residents' Association and a past Director of the Saanich Heritage Foundation.
Paul is currently a Public Member of the College of Denturists of B.C. Paul is the Vice-Chair of the College and is Chair of the Inquiry Committee, the body which investigates complaints regarding denturists in B.C.
