Carl Stovel - Board Member
Carl graduated in Medicine from the University of Manitoba in 1969 and, after four years of family practice, completed his residency in psychiatry at UBC 1974-78. Then he spent three years with the Canadian Armed Forces in Germany and two years at CFB Esquimalt before starting a private practice in Victoria. He specialized in the office and hospital assessment and treatment of adult patients with mental illnesses, primarily severe mood disorders. Over the course of thirty years, he had the privilege of being involved in the lives of >8,000 patients and their families.
He and his wife, Susan, have been married for 50 years and are fortunate to have their two daughters, son-in-law, and three grandchildren living in Saanich.
Now retired, he is very excited to become involved in the establishment of a non-profit accredited Clubhouse International in the Victoria area. He believes passionately that the addition of this model will help many people with mental illness lead productive happy lives.
