How being an Employment Partner Helps our Community
Mental illness is one of the most pervasive illnesses in Canada, with more than one person in five living with some form of mental illness. Many people with mental illness have been told that they cannot work, and the loss in productivity in Canada represents $30 billion annually. While some people may face physical barriers when trying to access the workplace, those with mental illness face emotional barriers. At Connections Place we provide those with mental illness a smooth transition into the workplace.
We believe that, given the right environment, people with mental illness can become productive and employed members of society.
Combining your employment opportunities with our on-the-job training and support, we can give members of our community, living with mental illness, the chance to work in the competitive job market, receive a paycheque, and ultimately improve their self-confidence.

Types of Jobs we will fill
Connections Place can help you fill entry-level positions and meet the demands of peak time work flow. We can fill typical entry-level jobs, such as (but not limited to)…
- Office Assistant
- File Clerk
- Mail Room Clerk
- Baker’s Assistant
- Salad Bar Attendant
- Food Preparation
All positions are part-time, from as little as 2 1/2 hours per day, a few days per week, up to 20 hours per week. Often one full-time position is divided into morning and afternoon shifts to create two jobs.
Our goal is to make connections with employers in a variety of sectors, including financial, retail, food services, cleaning and maintenance, manufacturing, and health services.
How it Works
Our commitment begins with a consultation to make sure that the job is suitable for our membership. This includes sending one of our staff to your work site to learn the job and ensure that the duties can be performed consistently and accurately by members. Connections Place members are then trained on the job, by us, until they are ready to perform their work independently, productively, and to your company standards. Maintaining contact with you in order to monitor job progress, our staff will gradually withdraw from the work site as the members become confident and proficient at their job duties.
Members are paid directly by you at the prevailing hourly rate for the job; Connections Place does not receive a commission or referral fee. Should a member be absent for any reason whatsoever, a staff member will cover the job at no cost to you. In the event that the job match is not suitable, we will also provide coverage until a replacement has been recruited and trained.
The job you provide will be performed by a member for up to nine months. Once they have completed their placement, that member will leave to pursue other opportunities. We will then recruit and train a new member to replace them.
